WE CAN DO IT

W
e would be really terrified if we start imagining those ten hours we spent without a cooler or a fan in the scorching heat of June, those four hours we studied in candlelight during the examination time, that one hour we spent without watching our favourite TV serial when it was being relayed, the day when we had to bathe in freezing cold water in the month of January. One may say life without electricity is definitely a curse.
T
o avoid being cursed in that way, conservation of electricity will prove the ultimate solution. Conserving electricity is the practice of decreasing the quantity of energy consumption while achieving a similar outcome of end use. This will result to reduction or ultimately elimination of wastage of Electricity. Conservation of electricity has become increasingly important as energy rates and shortages have increased. We can find a number of ways not only to cut back on our electrical use especially with appliances commonly found in the home, but also to tighten our belt when our hard-earned money goes only after paying electric bills.
M
uch of the world’s electricity is produced from the use of non-renewable resources, such as natural gas, coal, oil, and uranium. Coal, oil, and natural gas contain carbon, and burning these fossil fuels contributes to global emissions of carbon dioxide and other pollutants. Scientists believe that carbon dioxide is the principal gas responsible for global warming, a steady rise in Earth’s surface temperature.  Also, Non-renewable resources are gone forever once we use them up and take a very long time to get renewed. Therefore, wasting electricity is not good for the environment.
Y
et another reason is that we need to conserve energy is to make up for some of the energy that is wasted due to the fact that a lot of people do not do enough reducing, reusing, and recycling of their garbage. Companies use a lot of electricity to produce lots of unnecessary items since many consumers do not use and reuse things as much as they should. Making these products wastes a lot of energy and electricity.
F
inally, we need to conserve electricity today in order to help future generations. Energy will be an even bigger problem in the future than it is today. So if kids start learning to use less electricity and to use it wisely today, they will be helping themselves in the future.

Not surprisingly, a school’s computer labs can be a huge energy expense

Information for Students
Students and teachers can do a lot to help save energy in their schools. Energy-saving things you do at home can also be done at schools.
Turn Out the Lights
Lighting is one of the largest users of energy in the classroom. By turning out the lights when a classroom is unoccupied, the school can save money. It's your school too! Get involved in saving energy. And don't forget to SHARE your views.
